About the Play
A HEARTFELT, WITTY, AND BITTERSWEET STORY ABOUT AGING, FRIENDSHIP AND REINVENTION
Envelop yourself in the world of “Drifting”, a world‑premiere play by Sacramento playwright Susan Andrews. “Drifting” is a warm, sharp, and bittersweet new play about reinvention, friendship, and the stubborn myths of getting older. Equal parts wry comedy, tender drama and hard choices when faced with one’s own mortality, it follows a woman navigating the indignity of unemployment and the cultural blind spots that erased her value—until an unlikely seaside companion shows her that repair, resistance, and a little ridiculousness can open doors she never thought to knock on. Honest dialogue, vivid local color, and two richly drawn baby-boomer leads make “Drifting” timely, laugh‑out‑loud, and deeply humane.

The Cast
TERESE LUKENBILL (EVIE) is thrilled to be making her second appearance at Burke Junction. She previously portrayed a robotic actress in “Shortcuts” in 2023. Some of her other favorite roles include Victoria in “The Waiting Room”, Lady Larkin in “Once Upon A Mattress“, Bastienne in Mozart’s “Bastien and Bastienne”, and Mother Spirit in “Twelve Dancing Princesses”. Terese would like to thank her directors, Eileen and Berney, for the opportunity to audition for the role of Evie. She would also like to thank her sisters, Gaye and Lynne, for their faith in her and for their support.
DARRYL DEHART (T) is very excited to be a part of "Drifting" at The Stage at Burke Junction. He was most recently seen as Father Tom in "Rogues" at The Stage at Burke Junction. Before that he was seen as Gus in "New Truck for Paulie" at the California Stage. Some of Darryl’s other favorite roles have been Hugo in the "Iceman Cometh", Dr. Astrov in "Uncle Vanya", and Juror #3 in "12 Angry Men". He enjoys traveling and exploring historical sites. Darryl lives in Sacramento with his beautiful wife and children, whom he thanks for their support.
SHIRLEY SAYERS (ANNIE) was last seen as Mrs. Latham and as Amelia Anderson in "CLINICALLY UNDEPRESSED" at Resurrection Theatre, at Big Idea Theatre as Suzanne in "QUEEN MARI'S CASTLE: LIVE!" and as Helena in "DOROTHEA PUENTE TELLS ALL". She was also recently seen as Ethel Thayer in “ON GOLDEN POND” at Sutter Street Theatre. She also has appeared as Mama in '"NIGHT, MOTHER", as Hannah in "ANGELS IN AMERICA", and as M'Lynn in "STEEL MAGNOLIAS", all of which were TAAC/ Errant Phoenix Productions.
NANCY SILVA (FRAN) has a career in theatre that spans many years as an actress, director, choreographer, and playwright in professional, academic, and community theatre. Nancy has appeared as La Connie in Electricidad at Sacramento Theatre Company as well as in community theatre productions in the Sacramento area. Nancy is a two-time Elly winner for directing and for Best Production and was nominated for an Elly for her performance in Aladdin for the Fair Oaks Theatre Festival. Nancy received an MA in Theatre Arts and an MFA in Directing, both from the University of Minnesota.
NATHAN RANGEL (JERALD) is a resident of nearby Lotus, has appeared in numerous productions throughout Sacramento and El Dorado Counties. Favorite credits include Into the Woods, The Miracle Worker, Fiddler on the Roof, Indians, A Christmas Carol, Romeo and Juliet, Annie, By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, Proof (here at Burke Junction), The Night Alive, and most recently, Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Nathan began acting while attending UCLA. After stepping away from theater for several decades to run his own local whitewater rafting company, he is now retired and thrilled to devote his time and passion to his first love—live theater. He is immensely grateful to the entire Drifting team for the hard work, talent, insight, and heart they have brought to this production.
DEVIN FERREIRA MACHADO (LAWRENCE, NARRATOR, VOICES) is honored to play a menagerie of well dressed characters in the first ever production of "Drifting". He's also excited to be returning to The Stage at Burke Junction after performing as Pozzo in "Waiting For Godot" in summer of 2025. He hopes the audience enjoys the show as much as the artists enjoyed producing it.
